A DAY OF GENTLE PURSUITS
T U E S D A Y, 2 9 A U G
It was so embarrassing – I was emptying a waste-paper basket into the rubbish-bin and humming the theme tune of Radio Monte Carlo (“la premiere fois ah-ah-ah-ah”) when who should appear round the corner but the painter!!! He gave me such a queer look - it was awful.
I picked some flowers and did two fab arrangements - one yellows, whites and oranges in the new yellow vase, and one all red in the turquoise vase. It was quite hot when I was picking the flowers and it was gorgeous: so summery with butterflies and bees. At 12.30 Chump and me had tennis coaching at the Fox-Scotts. We did serving; honestly, I couldn’t hit one ball, there are about ten things to remember all at once.
Andrea spent the whole day with Chump, and told us that the painter followed her down to the tennis court on Saturday - ???
I read a bit of 'Mansfield Park' - I’m not even half way through yet. I'm going to start on '1984' instead.
Had a fab pudding Ma got out of Vogue for supper. I made it. It’s a mixture of cream, coconut crumbles and orange juice on top of grapes coated in sugar.
I'm so worried about results, they may come tomorrow. I know I’ve failed German.
