SWITZERLAND IS GORGEOUS
S A T U R D A Y, 8 A P R I L
Wore my kilt and red jacket and had a ladder in my stocking so I looked a mess. Also my hair looked pretty foul.
We drove in the hired Merc into Zurich, parked, and walked up and down the Bahnhofstrasse. Super shops all along, including our art shop. I got a fab pencil case with eight crayons (only trouble is, it's black) and some sweet little sealskin purses, and some beautiful modern transfers for Lucy's birthday. Then we bought food for a picnic and drove to Rappersweill at the other end of the lake - honestly Zurich is a lovely city. There's so much green along the lake and forsythia is everywhere!
Drove back to the Ermitage, Chump and me had a bath and I wore my blue dress. Then we drove to the doctor's house where Rhys and Soz are staying - they're friends of theirs. Super to see Jane, she's so brown and gorgeous! She was wearing a squaw's outfit she got today. The house is lovely, it's got super things in it, old painted beds and things like the Post has.
Chump and me put Jane to bed, and at 8.20 we left and went to this terribly nice restaurant, the Wortshaft Fluhgass. We had a long table because there were eight of us. I spoke mainly with Pa and the doctor's wife, she's so sweet. She said she hasn't been skiing for ages - she's been pregnant for three years running! It was great fun. First I had 'les fruits de mer' in a scallop shell, then a gorgeous peppery steak with chips, then a creamy liqueury chocolate mousse with cream. Honestly, it was yummy. The service was slow but the wine water was a snazz - he said "here is the soap" instead of "here is the soup", and as he was taking the cork out of the wine bottle it flew onto the table. Hilarious.
